Are your hair extensions ethical?Updated a year ago

When choosing where to source and manufacturer our products, we prioritised ethics before all else. We strongly believe that our community shouldn’t have to compromise their ethics just to have a new hairstyle.

That being said, we are fully transparent that our industry today is highly unregulated. This drives a lot of malpractice which can be difficult to investigate and resolve.

Before launching with any contract manufacturer, we dedicate time to testing their processes, going as far as employing a 3rd party to regulate ourselves (!) and ensure our partners are aligned with our values. A few examples;

  • We refused to work with any sourcing partner that could not disclose to us the age and salaries of their hair donors and labourers
  • We refused to work with any sourcing partner which sold us goods at prices significantly below market average - because that’s indicative of poor pay
  • We refused to work with partners who claimed to sell hair lengths above 24”, because we know how rare these donors should be. 30” hair should NOT be readily available and accessibly priced, and there’s something suspicious about that to us. (Sorry Cardi!)

We cannot claim to be perfect here. Like most industries in the world (including the food we eat!), the end product on your shelf is a result of a long chain of workers. Only in owning the standards in the entire chain can any company claim to be 100% ethical. We are striving for an industry with more regulation and real consequences for unethical practices, and until we get there, we’ll keep on holding ourselves to our own high standards.
